Beyond Wireless secures eThekwini contract

May 2010 News

Local specialist wireless machine to machine (M2M) communication solutions provider Beyond Wireless has become the first company in South Africa to provide real-time wireless monitoring services to a municipality across both water and electricity utilities on one platform.

The company is pleased to announce that it has been awarded the contract to provide a GPRS based monitoring and control platform (SCAD@nywhere) for the eThekwini municipality’s waste water treatment facilities. Beyond Wireless already provides the wireless communication and monitoring platform for the City’s 11 kV medium voltage electricity distribution network.

CEO Ian Lester says that the new contract will see 37 waste water treatment plants added to the Beyond Wireless eThekwini Municipality wireless monitoring portfolio, meaning that it will now provide visibility of both the city’s water and its electricity infrastructure. “Our system is suitable for a comprehensive range of applications, ranging from water quality, flow, pressure, temperature, access control, level, service hours and many others. This ensures that we are able to offer our customers the flexibility they require to monitor all their assets through one, easy to use browser-based interface. Applications span multiple industries, including electricity, water, mining, property, retail, pharmaceutical, cold chain, farming and healthcare.”

The Beyond Wireless system is based on readily available GSM cellphone networks and browser-based technology making it suitable for large municipalities and also keeping it affordable for smaller users.
