Shinko Technos of Japan has recently redesigned and upgraded its controllers to offer a higher level of performance at a lower cost. This comes as good news amidst the increasing cost of standalone controllers and the weaker South African rand. The 96 x 96 mm JCD controller and the 48 x 96 mm JCR controller offer stable control with a full range of functions.
The controllers are equipped with a main relay control output with PID control and auto tuning. The output can be changed to noncontact voltage to drive a solid-state relay or 4 to 20 mA DC current, to suit individual customer requirements. The devices also have selectable temperature input types by means of the front keypad and one selectable type alarm relay output. A unique feature to these controllers is the ability to select between two different set points by means of an external contact as standard. Further options include a second selectable alarm type relay output, heater burnout alarm by means of current transformers, DC current or voltage input and RS485 serial communications.
Other features involve the use of the controllers, RS485 and Shinko's own IFP-100 communication converter for PROFIBUS. Good news for existing Shinko customers is that the controller casing is identical to earlier models. This means that the existing controller may be slid out and the new one slid in. Controllers conform to CE standard, with present applications for UL and CSA standards.
