Low-cost PLC used as remote I/O

LG Industrial Systems recently released the LG K10S1 PLC with the idea of competing in the intelligent relay market. The unit, a full-blown PLC, offers 8 digital inputs, six digital outputs, a single-channel high-speed counter and the ability to communicate with 32 similar devices via RS485.

This ability to communicate with 32 similar PLCs makes the unit a suitable remote I/O module when utilised with the LG 'Big Brother' GM system. Every node can be configured either as a blind I/O unit or as an intelligent local PLC reporting to the system master.

As remote I/O, this system is different. There is no need for special power supplies or special cables, and remote processing power is available as standard. This offers an immediate advantage over other low-resolution actuator and sensor interface systems. With the LG system, a decision can be made locally without affecting the master PLC cycle time.

All programming software is available free of charge from LG distributors.
