Soft-logic controller for distributed data acquisition

PLCs, DCSs & Controllers
Advantech's ADAM-5510/P31 is a PC-based soft-logic controller for general standalone control applications. It is designed for non-critical, distributed data acquisition and control applications such as utility control, water treatment control and building and manufacturing automation.
The ADAM-5510/P31 features an IEC 1131-3 compliant runtime engine, remote downloading and monitoring via the RS485/Modbus networking and a program/data memory of 512 KB flash disk and 256 KB SRAM, including 12 KB battery back-up SRAM.
With a faster scan time than a PLC, the Paradym-31 uses a compiler to generate execution codes rather than an interpreter, which most PLCs use. The system may be expanded to include up to 256 ADAM-5510 nodes in an RS485 network. Advantech is represented locally by ProMicro.

Seven checks before replacing an obsolete industrial control component
PLCs, DCSs & Controllers
An obsolete control component rarely fails in isolation. Before ordering an exact spare, manufacturer successor or engineered alternative, maintenance and procurement teams should work through seven checks to define the problem properly and avoid a costly mismatch.
