Eycon keeps an eye on the process

April 2007 PLCs, DCSs & Controllers

Eurotherm has recently launched a new series of visual supervisory terminals. These provide multifunction control, recording and visualisation for plant systems. Eurotherm has a wealth of experience in the control, data acquisition and process automation markets and the Eycon Series incorporates this expertise in a single product line.

Eycon's new visual supervisor technology incorporates functionality to facilitate process management. Eurotherm believe that engineers may class these visual supervisors as a mini-DCS which could easily be incorporated as a powerful component into a wider system. The devices can be used as a building block within larger systems communicating over Ethernet using the LIN protocol. The series has been designed to reduce configuration, integration, installation and wiring costs.

Eurotherm has traditionally been strong in the pharmaceutical, chemical, glass and other industries where temperature control and measurement are critical to the process and the Eycon series is designed to meet visualisation in these markets.

Operators should find it easy to use the integrated full colour displays, which use touch screen technology. The pop-up navigation menus provide an intuitive interface to functions such as batch control, recipe management, commissioning and diagnostic tools. Using peer-to-peer LIN communications information can be viewed locally or at any EurothermSuite operator station. The series can communicate with any Modbus device via a serial or Ethernet connection.

The series supports datalogging and trending capabilities as well as archiving to USB or via FTP. Accurate multiple PID loops and advanced automation strategies can be incorporated and sequential control capabilities enable the devices to be used in the implementation of phases as defined in the ISA-S88 batch production standards.
