Higher standards for rotary encoder technology
April 2004
Motion Control & Drives
Represented in South Africa by Rhomberg, Stegmann presents what it believes is a world first in the field of encoders with its 'CoreTech', which is short for 'Core Technology'.
What is new about CoreTech is that for incremental and absolute electronic encoders, it is now possible to produce without any adjustment. It is no longer necessary to turn the encoder by hand in order to manually adjust the position of the marker-pulse, saving time and money.
Whether the requirement is for solid shaft, blind hollow shaft or through hollow shaft with different shaft diameters, servo or face mount flange, absolute or incremental with any resolution the delivery time is not affected.
CoreTech through its modular design is able to offer a tailor made solution for every application. High reliability is achieved by the use of highly integrated ASICS. All variants are available. For incremental encoders any line count from 1 to 8192 can be realised. For absolute encoders all resolutions from 1 to 15 bits can be realised, ie, any resolution from 2-32 768 steps per revolution. Any line/turns count is possible by programming to the customer's requirements.
By using interchangeable collets all hollow shaft diameters from 1 to 15 mm and 1/4" to 1/2" can be realised. This is valid for incremental and absolute encoders. The full program consists of a vast number of variants: 28 mechanical and electrical combinations, 213 incremental line counts 215 absolute resolutions.
