SEW-Eurodrive SA reports that its 2002/3 invoiced-output is 25% in excess of target. Celebrating this significant achievement, MD, Urs Roos comments:
"Over the past year or so we have gradually fine-honed our sales and marketing team so that they operate as a cohesive unit. Because of computer enhancements in the company, internal communication between all the players is now fast and accurate. All our assembly facilities in Cape Town, Durban, Nelspruit, and Johannesburg, together with our main manufacturing plant in Germany, are all solidly linked and operate as one big cohesive unit - all of which plays an important part in providing the slick customer service our customers have grown to expect.
"Another important factor contributing to our success this last year is our new enlarged product offering, which covers from standard geared motors, electronic inverter-based control devices, to heavy-duty industrial gear-boxes complete with base plates and accessories.
"An interesting development that has had some impact on our increased sales is our mobile field service unit. This is a Mercedes industrial van that is fully equipped to carry out maintenance or repair work on SEW drives anywhere in South Africa. Fitted benches, captive tool racks, power tools, and a compressor are neatly fitted into the interior of the van and a one-ton swing-out chain hoist at the rear is provided for loading and unloading the heavier gearboxes. It is well known, that when you help somebody who has a problem - irrespective of what it is - you have made a friend."
Although SEW in Johannesburg serve a large sector of the R500-million+ drives market, it is also servicing 17 African countries - this is one of its growth areas.
