Innovative new products from maxon

January 2025 Motion Control & Drives

A series of innovative new products has been launched by maxon. They include a drive with a diameter of just 16 millimetres, a controller that can be easily integrated into even the tightest of spaces, and a robust and reliable robotic actuator. These and many other exciting products are presented in maxon’s product video.

These are the new maxon products:

ECX PRIME 16 L: This is the second size in the extremely powerful PRIME motor series now available in the maxon portfolio. Equipped with ironless windings and four-pole rotor designs, the brushless PRIME motors have a pronounced speed rigidity. The 53 mm long ECX PRIME 16 L features high torque of up to 25 mNm at high speeds of up to 40 000 rpm.

The four-pole motor, available for the first time with a diameter of 16 mm, is also available as a sterilisable version, and is suitable for medical hand-held devices. Free of cogging torques, the ECX PRIME 16 L can be combined with a wide range of other maxon components to generate a drive system that is a perfect fit for the respective application.

ECX FLAT: These motors with integrated electronics are compact, brushless maxon motors with diameters from 22 to 42 mm, ideal for compact spaces. Designed as external rotor motors, they achieve up to 15 000 revolutions per minute. Depending on the size, they can also be combined with gearheads and encoders.

Thanks to the innovative winding technology and powerful magnets, the ECX FLAT has a unique torque-to-size ratio. The brushless DC motors are available as standard versions with the best price-performance ratio, or as high-torque versions for maximum torque.

The ECX FLAT now has a version with integrated electronics. These can be easily controlled via four digital and analogue inputs and outputs. A unique feature is that the extensive functions and parameters of the integrated speed controller can be configured directly online.

ESCON2 controller: With the introduction of the ESCON2 servo controller and the user-friendly Motion Studio software, maxon has created a new flexible platform. ESCON2 controllers are based on the latest technology in semiconductor and PCB manufacturing, resulting in unprecedented power density and control performance in terms of torque and speed. The controllers offer additional features and have a modular design so that they can be easily integrated into a wide range of applications.

The ESCON2 controllers are versatile, from simple standalone applications such as fans or pumps to sophisticated CANopen-based systems in AGVs and handheld devices. A new addition is the ESCON2 Nano 24/2 for highly miniaturised applications.

In addition to the controllers, maxon has also released the newly developed Motion Studio software, which can be used to configure all ESCON2 and existing ESCON products.

IDX 70 with GB65 gearhead from Parvalux: The maxon IDX 70 is a compact, powerful brushless DC motor with integrated EPOS4 controller and robust housing. It offers up to 750 W of power and 6000 rpm, and with its IP65 protection, is suitable for demanding areas of applications such as robotics, automation and logistics. The IDX 70 supports EtherCAT and CANopen communication, and is easy to configure. An integrated temperature sensor protects against overheating and ensures safe continuous operation.

In combination with the GB65 right-angle gearbox from Parvalux, the IDX 70 is ideal for applications in agriculture, medicine, and warehouse automation. The gearbox with up to 300 Nm torque works efficiently and quietly, and is IP67 protected.

HEJ90 robotic actuator: The High Efficiency Joint 90 is a compact, integrated drive system for robotics. It contains all the necessary subsystems such as electronics, motor, gearbox, and sensors. The HEJ90 is fully encapsulated, shock and water protected, and is designed for continuous operation, with active cooling if required. Thanks to its high robustness, advanced control options and long service life, the system is ideal for many robotics applications. Suitable simulation models also enable precise system planning and optimisation.
