Compact inverters for synchronous servomotors

August 2002 Motion Control & Drives

Comprehensive concepts accommodating the widest variety of drive control requirements make the job of finding a 'custom-built', economical drive solution easier - a plus factor for project planning machines and systems. SEW Eurodrive has demonstrated this with its frequency inverters from the Movidrive compact series. These inverters combining wide-ranging functionality and extensive versatility within the most compact dimensions allow almost all standard applications to withstand the pressure of high costs.

Movidrive compact inverters come in a wide variety of designs. The MCF and MCV inverters with field-oriented control mode for asynchronous motors with or without encoder have been established on the market for some time. Introduced more recently are inverters for precision control of highly dynamic synchronous servomotors. These cover a current range of 4 to 73 A and are suitable for supply voltages from 3 x 380 to 500 V. The units are compact, reliable and simple to install. The rapid system bus allows them to be easily networked. Ease of operation was a decisive design factor.

The Movitools software for Windows provides a PC interface tuned to the practical requirements of carrying out diagnostics and setting parameters. The inverters can also be configured for control via Profibus. The integrated IPOSPlus control software permits the inverters to independently take care of positioning or sequence control tasks. For numerous standard applications, application-specific software packages are available with complete documentation including the wiring designation for the inverter - for instance, for applications such as crane control, hoists or for positioning turntables. Users can easily tailor such ready-made solutions to meet their own specific requirements.
