Versatile AC drive with PC-based software tools

April 2002 Motion Control & Drives

Including features that are standard in both small and medium inverters, the iG5 from LG Industrial Systems is a versatile and flexible AC drive. Suitable for a broad range of applications ranging from fans through commercial washing machines to tooling machines, the drive includes the following features:

This PWM AC drive offers the following features:

* IP00~IP20 rated enclosure.

* Built-in RS485, ModBus-RTU, PID control.

* Removable keypad (able to read and write parameter).

* Able to produce 150% torque at 0,5 Hz.

* Trip-free operation algorithm.

* Eight preset speeds.

* Three jump(skip) frequencies.

* Three multifuctional inputs.

* One multifuctional output.

* Analog output (0~10V).

* PNP and NPN dual directional signals.

* Speed search.

* 3-wire operation.

* 1 to 10 kHz carrier frequency.

* Built-in braking transistor.

* Manual/auto torque boost.

The iG5 has most popular communication interfaces such as Modbus-RTU and RS232/485 built into its communication interface, and the PC-based monitoring software is a valuable diagnostic tool. The Driveview software offers a Windows-based monitoring tool through RS485 interface with graphic capture, keypad emulator, parameter edit and text monitor. This software may be used with all LG inverters.

A valuable feature in process control applications, the built-in PID control algorithm controls flow, temperature, pressure, etc through the proportional, integral and differential calculus between the feedback value and reference value in closed loop scenarios.

To ensure maximum torque during acceleration and deceleration, a 'trip free' function is brought into play. Acceleration and deceleration is often where power trips occur in manually programmed installations. The iG5's 32-bit DSP CPU monitors the current transition during the acceleration and deceleration to produce an optimum performance curve that remains under the trip-triggering level, automatically.
