Yokogawa SA has been awarded the contract to supply the outside water handling plant at Eskom’s Tutuka Power Station with its Centum VP process control solution.
Speaking at the contract signing ceremony in Standerton, Herman van den Berg, managing director of Yokogawa SA said: “Yokogawa is pleased to join forces with Eskom to upgrade the water systems at the Tutuka Power Station. We believe there is great synergy and expertise between the two teams that will be collaborating on the Centum VP installation at the water handling plant. We will be offering Eskom a complete turnkey solution coupled with training for the personnel at Tutuka. This Yokogawa/Eskom partnership launches an exciting new phase in our working relationship, which I believe will pave the way for a lasting and constructive partnership. We are committed to bringing honesty, open communication and technical excellence to the relationship.”

Tutuka Power Station manager, Ryno la Cock, commented: “We are looking forward to the support and technical know-how that Yokogawa has committed to giving us. The selection process was long, but the cutting edge technology that Yokogawa offers us, I believe, will enhance our water handling plant operations. We are looking forward to working with the Yokogawa team.”
“We have spent 12 months demonstrating the success and efficiencies of our Centum VP system to Eskom,” said Pierre Britz, senior systems engineer at Yokogawa. “The capability of Yokogawa in South Africa was also a serious consideration in our winning this contract.”
Centum VP offers total integration for efficiency and regulatory compliance; advanced technology for asset sustainability and knowledge retention, world class performance with a proven international track record for quality and reliability and low total cost of ownership for users. Other key elements on offer from Yokogawa include training, a global response centre, preventative maintenance, emergency maintenance and systems maintenance and consultation.
Yokogawa business development manager for power, Manuel Fernandes, says that while Yokogawa is extremely pleased to have secured the contract with Tutuka Power Station, it does not mean he will become complacent. He stresses that Yokogawa’s philosophy is to establish relationships with its customers that are long-lasting and mutually beneficial and he is dedicated to achieving this with Ryno la Cock and his team.
