Dual port programmer
July 2008
PLCs, DCSs & Controllers
Needhams Electronics’ EMP-21 universal device programmer offers a choice of interfaces that extend application flexibility. With over 6600 devices supported and Windows-based software, users have the option of USB or parallel port connection. A new one-touch automation system allows blank-checking, erasure, programming, verification or any combination of these at the push of a button.
The low profile, lightweight design of the EMP-21 makes it ideal for desktop applications or inclusion in the toolbox for device programming in the field. The device is cost effective and the absence of a fan and power switch eliminates wear and tear.
The case is made of tough ABS plastic, and the units are ESD protected at the ZIF socket, Family module socket, parallel and USB port and power connector. The units program at speeds near the theoretical limit, therefore the digital signals must be clean, and the power and ground lines solid.
The purpose of Family modules is to allow the use of a few high quality pin drivers, instead of using a cheaper pin driver on each pin on the ZIF socket. This translates to cleaner, more manageable waveforms at a lower price.
