Mitsubishi Electric Automation introduced its latest servo, the MR-J3, at PackExpo in Chicago earlier this year. Smaller and faster than previous models, the J3 realises high speed and accuracy, and has a host of new features that make it suitable for a wide range of applications. The new servo design has a smaller amplifier and motor and incorporates a high resolution encoder, advanced auto-tuning and vibration control.
The J3's high torque motor can operate at up to 6000 rpm, and with a speed frequency response of 900 Hz, can shorten positioning times. 20% smaller than its predecessor, the J3's high resolution (262 144 ppr) encoder is mounted as a standard to realise stability even at low speeds. Its amplifier, which is 40% smaller than the current model, has less wiring and smaller connectors, so can be mounted in smaller spaces than its predecessors.
Mitsubishi Electric Automation's original model adaptive control and evolving automatic tuning function make precise tuning as easy as changing the response setting value, and the J3's advanced vibration control suppresses vibrations automatically.
Set-up, diagnostics and tuning are easy, thanks to MR Configurator, a Windows-based software package. The configurator has many improved diagnostic functions, such as an advanced machine analyser, oscilloscope and high speed monitor. A parameter setting window makes start-up easy, and a USB interface enables high-speed sampling and long-term wavelength measurement.
