SEW Eurodrive has a solid reputation as a supplier of power transmission systems for the wood processing industry all over the world. Over 60 000 heavy industrial gear units, mainly to the wood processing sector, are in service.
Because of their modular concept, heavy industrial gearboxes can be made up quickly from standard components. This concept is spread over all aspects of the industry. For mechanical wood handling, segmented ring gear drives and support rolls can be provided for debarking drums, and special units for chipper gearing and conveyor drives.
In the pulp process, large bore hollow shaft gear units are produced for the cooking, washing and bleaching processes. Important details such as the integrated construction that allows the gear unit to withstand the forces transmitted by the driven equipment's rotor, special sealing for the harshest environments and low noise levels are all featured. In certain applications for filter drives, the gear unit acts as a support bearing for the whole filter - a cost saving consideration.
For chemical recovery situations, for agitator and filter drives, there is a seal arrangement that is protected from mechanical damage, eliminating the need for costly seal replacement and pressure lubrication or grease nipples. For lime sludge reburn kiln, and clarifier drives, ADI-Meehanite segmented ring gear units, with the pinion attached directly to the gear unit, are used. Loads are shared by dual drives to reduce wear.
SEW-Eurodrive believes that a close working relationship with customers is the best way to guarantee that all the special requirements of features for their particular paper machine drive are realised. A typical example of this is a built-in suction roll gear unit, originally designed for a customer, and now designed into an entire series for the pulp and paper industry.
