Accelerating pharmaceutical digital compliance and operational efficiency

Cosmos, one of Kenya’s leading pharmaceutical manufacturers, has strengthened its digital infrastructure and enhanced regulatory compliance through the implementation of an integrated monitoring, energy management and digital validation platform supported by Schneider Electric. The platform has delivered greater operational visibility, improved data integrity and strengthened compliance readiness, priorities central to a sector where precision and traceability are essential.

Driving operational excellence and regulatory confidence

Pharmaceutical manufacturing requires strict control of environmental conditions, equipment performance and data accuracy. Cosmos sought a centralised digital platform that could unify monitoring, simplify compliance processes and support decision making across operations, maintenance and quality.

While initial monitoring tools were in place, they lacked the stability, integration and performance required for a high-compliance pharmaceutical facility. Cosmos therefore partnered with Schneider Electric Kenya to modernise its digital ecosystem and align it with long-term operational, quality and sustainability objectives.

“Beyond improving compliance, the platform has opened our eyes to how and where we consume energy. This transparency is helping us control costs, plan better and support our long-term sustainability goals as a manufacturer,” says Jacob Malowa, manager in charge of engineering and projects at Cosmos.

A unified digital platform for quality, efficiency and sustainability

Schneider Electric worked with Cosmos to fully assess the facility and implement a modern, integrated digital infrastructure. Key enhancements included:

• A stabilised and optimised building management system that provides accurate, real-time monitoring and control of critical manufacturing environments.

• EcoStruxure Power Monitoring Expert for granular energy visibility, enabling Cosmos to identify cost drivers, understand consumption trends and support sustainability planning.

• A pharma compliance package that ensures secure, traceable data, audit-ready reporting and enhanced visibility for quality and validation teams.

“Cosmos’s objective was to establish a digital foundation that supports operations, maintenance, energy performance and compliance. In pharmaceutical production, validated and traceable data is a requirement, and the solutions exist to ensure customers remain compliant to regulations,” says Ifeanyi Odoh, country president, Schneider Electric East Africa.

With the new digital ecosystem in place, Cosmos has improved reliability, gained stronger control over critical processes and simplified compliance oversight. Teams across the organisation now work with better insights and more responsive tools. The project has delivered:
