This evolution is driving partners to extend their capabilities beyond traditional automation products and build deeper competencies in software integration, data management, AI and cybersecurity. “The industrial automation partner of tomorrow will bear little resemblance to the traditional equipment reseller of the past. Partners will increasingly combine the roles of digital transformation consultant, software integrator, AI advisor and lifecycle services provider to guide customers through complex digital transformation journeys,” says Oriel Soupen, channel marketing manager at Schneider Electric South Africa.

Operating at the OT/IT intersection

Partners that can bridge operational technology, information technology, data and business strategy will successfully differentiate themselves by deepening long-term customer relationships and unlocking higher-margin opportunities in consulting, managed services and software.

“Partners’ value will come not only from implementing technology, but from building unified digital ecosystems; this includes designing architectures, integrating platforms, securing operations and translating industrial data into actionable business insights,” says Soupen. AI will further accelerate this shift, driving demand for partners that can identify high-value use cases, deploy predictive and prescriptive analytics, optimise production processes and support data-driven decision-making. Increasing connectivity and cyber risk will also elevate the importance of cybersecurity expertise as a core component of the partner value proposition.

As industrial automation solutions become more integrated, this deeper complexity calls for greater assurance that partners bring the expertise and proven methodologies required to deliver successful outcomes. Channel partners must evolve from traditional equipment providers into trusted digital transformation advisors who blend deep automation expertise with consulting, software and AI capabilities. “This transformation demands engagement throughout the full customer lifecycle, from strategy and design to implementation, optimisation and continuous improvement. Partners can build stronger relationships and generate more predictable, recurring revenue by helping customers boost productivity, reduce downtime and accelerate digital transformation,” says Neethling.

The partners best positioned for success will be those who move beyond transactional sales and become indispensable contributors to their customers’ operational and business performance.
