SAIMC News: Witbank Sub Branch
June 2002
SAIMC
We hoped it would not, but it happened again! Winter hit us with a vengeance and everything seems to slow down as a result of the cold. Luckily the Witbank sub-branch (we need to get rid of that prefix) is like the fuel price, we just keep going from strength to strength!
Before I tell you about all the interesting happenings in Witbank, I need to set the record straight. Although the Johannesburg branch has this idea of a 'united front' against them, there are in fact no such conspiracies! They just have to accept that this is no longer a one horse race, and that competition will get even stiffer in future. Fortunately for them the constitution prevents us from competing this year for the 'branch of the year' award, but we will keep breathing down their necks!
Branch issues:
During May we had a most interesting branch meeting sponsored by PTM, a Division of Eskom Enterprises. The topic under discussion was 'Cable fault location' and we had a practical demo that really put out the lights. This very interesting service and many others can be viewed on their website at www.ptm-online.co.za
We are also working hard on our Golf Day later in the year and will take note of all other branch golf days to make sure that we do not step on sensitive toes! You can look forward to this one - it will be one of the best to date. Details will be communicated in due course.
To all our applicants and members, remember that our branch meetings will continue, irrespective of the foul weather and freezing temperatures. We will inform you of the topics lined up for the rest of the year.
Note: Thank you to Chris and the team for their excellent effort in communicating membership status and progress to our applicants, we notice the effort and really appreciate it!
Remember to watch the local press for details of our planned events!

“Never have so many owed so much to so few.” This phrase is a famous quote by Winston Churchill, referring to the efforts of the Royal Air Force pilots who fought in the Battle of Britain during World War II. It highlights the immense gratitude owed to the relatively small number of pilots who played a crucial role in defending the United Kingdom from the German Luftwaffe.
