SAIMC: Durban branch

July 2026 SAIMC

The SAIMC Durban Branch hosted a well-attended technology meeting on the evening of Wednesday, 3 June 2026, featuring a presentation by Ethan King of Abacus Automation on the growing role of AI in industrial automation.

King was an engaging and charismatic presenter who delivered a clear and informative overview of AI and its practical applications in industrial environments. Drawing on his experience in industrial automation, he showed how AI can assist engineers with diagnostics, decision-making, and operational efficiency, while emphasising the continuing importance of human expertise and engineering judgement.

Through a range of real-world examples, attendees gained valuable insight into how AI can be integrated into existing industrial systems and used as a powerful tool to enhance productivity rather than replace skilled professionals.

The presentation sparked considerable interest and discussion, reflecting the industry’s growing focus on AI and its future potential in automation and control.

The Durban Branch extends its thanks to Abacus Automation for sponsoring the evening.
