The SAIMC Eastern Cape Branch, together with Nelson Mandela University’s School of Engineering, hosted a local satellite viewing site for the IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Automation (ICRA 2026) from 2 to 4 June 2026 at the North Campus Conference Centre.
ICRA 2026, held in Austria, is the world’s largest conference on robotics, automation, artificial intelligence and manufacturing, making the local satellite venue an important regional access point. The initiative was delivered through collaboration between the IEEE South Africa Section’s Joint Control Systems and Robotics and Automation Chapters, SAIMC and Nelson Mandela University’s Advanced Mechatronic Technology Centre.
The satellite venue gave postgraduate students, academics and local industry professionals in Gqeberha access to leading international keynote and plenary presentations. Participants explored global advances and discussed how they relate to regional industrial, manufacturing and social challenges.
The collaboration reflects the shared commitment of SAIMC, IEEE and the School of Engineering to international research engagement, connecting local talent with global engineering benchmarks while strengthening the Eastern Cape’s presence in advanced robotics and automation.
