Moore’s integrated solutions find favour in various applications across the globe

August 2017 System Integration & Control Systems Design

Moore Process Controls is a privately held company, with a track record spanning 32 years. As testimony to its outstanding delivery record much of the business is from repeat customers – in some cases these relationships span three decades. The head office is situated in Johannesburg, with regional offices in South Africa (Secunda, Vanderbijlpark, and Westville), Houston, London and Singapore.

Comprehensive portfolio

The company’s comprehensive set of services range from control-system design input to front-end engineering design (FEED) studies, through to turnkey process automation projects. According to the company’s international business-development manager, Trevor Nell, service scope also includes optimisation and long-term maintenance services for offshore installations.

Nell explains that the company has a vast and varied footprint of successful installations across a number of sectors. “We have a considerable track record of successful global automation projects in offshore and onshore oil and gas production, with special emphasis on FPSO integrated control and safety systems (ICSS) and subsea master control stations (MCS). Other major sectors include petrochemical refining, mining, ferrous and base metals, chemicals, food and beverage, water and wastewater, power, and pulp and paper facilities.”

IIoT and digitisation are currently a major focus for Moore. It has collaborated with major software suppliers to deliver a full suite of digitisation solutions covering the entire scope of plant operations. The bottom-up approach ensures that plants function optimally at the coal face, and are then optimised through the entire digital stack including electronic operator log books, operator training simulators, alarm management, predictive maintenance, plant-wide loop optimisation, production management, energy management, and finally, integration with the Cloud. Using these tools, Moore has delivered demonstrable savings in the order of tens of millions of USD.

Moore is certified for ISO 9001, OHSAS 18001 and for delivering safety and shutdown control systems. Documentation is provided for all phases of the project, driven by embedded ISO 9001 work-flows. Each phase of the system tested against functional specifications and detailed factory-acceptance-test procedures to give its clients assurance that requirements have been met or exceeded.

Positive approach

Moore has a can-do culture, where engineers take on some of the toughest challenges in the control industry. All projects are executed in-house with a flexible and accommodating attitude toward client requirements. The company method is to do the basics right consistently, and then add a little extra. The extensive plant and process knowledge means that engineers can work independently from the client, and bring additional insights to plant control strategies.

The engineering team members are highly experienced, many have 20 to 30 years under the belt, and are characterised by their flexibility and willingness to make changes at late stages in the project. They are available at all times during a crisis.
