February technology evening

The February technology evening was held at Umhambi Lodge. The director of DesSoft, Johan Hamman, did a presentation on the topic: Design engineering software for instrumentation, electrical and process engineers.

Left: Director for DesSoft, Johan Hamman with Mervyn Govender, Chairman SAIMC Richards Bay.
Left: Director for DesSoft, Johan Hamman with Mervyn Govender, Chairman SAIMC Richards Bay.

Johan kicked off by introducing DesSoft and the range of products which includes P&ID, 1Des (FDes+EDes), Drive, 1Eng, RDes as well as 1view. The 1Des is a combination of the FDes, a fieldbus and instrumentation design software and the EDes electrical design software. 1Des is a relational database system that ensures accurate data entry, which means data resides in one place and changes only have to be made once to reflect on all documents.

From one database, loop diagrams, cable connection diagrams, wire connection diagrams, termination connection diagrams, fieldbus and Ethernet layout diagrams can be generated and updated. One important tool is the redlining functionality where changes made can be flagged on the drawings from the viewer and once changes are accepted they will be updated and reflected on all drawings. Johan did a demonstration where he generated drawings from scratch to prove the potency of the software.

Lastly, he also spoke about the new software coming in 2013 which will be compatible with Windows 8 and tablet ready.
