SAIMC: From the president's desk

April 2013 SAIMC

In the past month the SAIMC has been making steady progress on its objectives for the year. We have completed our branch AGMs and the council AGM. We now have constitutionally valid structures to get on with our important work. It is indeed very heartening for me to see the enthusiastic and committed teams we have at branch and council level. These selfless volunteers are greatly assisting us in our endeavour to renew the SAIMC and ensure that our members get maximum benefit. We have done away with the branch of the year competition and replaced it with a branch categorisation system that will reward the branches with a greater proportion of member funds for greater service delivery to our members. Hence our members can look forward to an increase in:

* Site visits.

* Workshops.

* CPD accredited training courses.

* More technical information on the website.

* Greater interaction with tertiary institutions.

In order to achieve these ambitious objectives we have put in support structures for the branch and council teams by way of a full time secretary. Ina Maartens has been appointed to this position effective 1 March and she can be contacted at [email protected]. The duties of the secretary will be amongst others:

1. Management of the member and interested party databases for branches.

2. Assistance of branches with notices for activities, such as sms reminders.

3. Manage content of the website.

4. Assistance with the organisation of workshops/training courses and publicity for these.

5. Manage the council office and streamlining the activities in order to ensure a smoother flow of information.

The secretary will be available from 9 am to 5 pm on weekdays excluding public holidays to assist members, branches and council with any reasonable request. Please use this valuable resource to make your SAIMC experience more rewarding.

Progress has been made with the organisation of the Bosberaad/Imbizo to be held this month in Gauteng. Invitations have gone out and the venue finalised. This event will be attended by the rebranding agency with whom a contract has been concluded. It is our intention to launch our new brand officially at the Process Expo 2013. We hope to see a lot of support from the automation and instrumentation fraternity at this event. The SAIMC will have a stand at the Expo again this year and further information about our plans can be found elsewhere in this edition of the SA Instrumentation and Control.

I once again invite all interested parties who want to assist the SAIMC on this journey to mail me at [email protected] with their constructive ideas.

Finally, members, please make every effort to attend your branch technology evenings which are now in full swing. These are organised at significant cost for your benefit. Apart from the knowledge gained, these monthly events are great for networking.

Hope to see you soon at one of the events and the process show.
