Starting a new year, facing new challenges, the AGM meeting for the Secunda branch was held on 17 January. Several members from the 2012 committee made themselves available to be re-elected again this year, while other branch members also showed interest.
The following members where elected to be on the committee for 2013: Annemarie Steenberg, Gerhard Swarts (treasurer), Cindy Geel, Johan Maritz (secretary and vice-chairman), John Phala, Nick Strydom, Kobus Reinecke (re-elected chairman), Peter Zietsman, Zay Sewram and Rickus Kriel.

After the elections, Brian Edwards, one of the founding members of the Secunda branch and also a 2012 committee member, prepared a lovely meal for everyone to enjoy. The branch members would like to thank every individual from the 2012 committee for the contribution they made.
This year, the general theme for the technology evenings for the Secunda branch will be focusing on valves. All of the technology evenings will aim to build the knowledge of the professionals attending in order to facilitate building a stronger foundation and knowledge base on this important subject.
There are exciting things to come from the new committee and also old favourites, like the yearly golf day, to look forward to. Something to look out for is the control trailer initiative that the branch has initiated. As one of the main focus areas is to teach and learn about technology in the instrumentation and control environment, this initiative will enable professionals to branch out and engage different levels of learners and to introduce them to, and teach them about, the profession and the possibilities of this career.
All professionals in the instrumentation and control engineering or enthusiasts are welcome to attend the monthly technology evenings. This is a great opportunity to build on your knowledge from industry professionals and gives the opportunity to network.

Any queries regarding the Secunda branch or to be put on the mailing list for the monthly Secunda technology evening invitation can be directed to Kobus Reinecke at [email protected] or Johan Maritz at [email protected]
