SAIMC

From the president's desk

October 2009 SAIMC

It gives me great pleasure to announce the appointment of our vice president, Peter Zietsman. Peter was one of the founder members of the Secunda branch 15 years ago and has actively served as branch secretary, chairman, treasurer as well as Function and Golf Day organiser. In addition to all these duties, Peter has for many years served as a councillor on the National Council where he represented the interests of the Secunda Branch. Travelling from Kriel in Mpumalanga to attend monthly Council meetings is just one of the commitments that Peter has made to the Institute. We welcome him and wish him all the best in this senior council position.

The SAIMC has joined forces with the IIG to concentrate our educational and training efforts and we have been asked to assist the 51 universities of Technology 51, located throughout the country, with the 2011 curriculum. We are grateful to our members and the companies employing them for their involvement in affording the time to serve on this strategic committee, which will assist in paving the future of our industry.

We welcome two new patron members: Phoenix Contact and SRE Developments.

It has come to the time of the year when our branches all over southern Africa are preparing for their year-end functions – Council will host a Banquet, Durban and Secunda are organising their annual dinners.

All SAIMC branches and sub-branches are performing well with record attendances at monthly technology evenings, site visits and functions – my thanks and gratitude to all the branch chairmen and their committees.
