Omniflex delivers ICCP systems in London

September 2026 Maintenance, Test & Measurement, Calibration

Omniflex has supplied impressed current cathodic protection (ICCP) systems for a range of prominent buildings in London, helping to protect reinforced concrete structures from corrosion and extend their service life. The company’s technology has been deployed at Selfridges London, Euston House, North Colonnade and Canada Square in Canary Wharf, along with the Grade II-listed site of 140 Leadenhall Street, originally built as The Midland Bank. These projects support the ongoing maintenance and preservation of commercial, retail and heritage sites in the United Kingdom’s capital.

Corrosion is one of the leading causes of deterioration in concrete structures. Left unchecked, it can lead to cracking, spalling and costly repairs, making long-term monitoring and protection vital for building owners seeking to maximise asset life and minimise disruption.

Omniflex’s ICCP systems combine transformer rectifiers, monitoring technology and remote communications capabilities, enabling operators to assess corrosion protection performance, test systems and adjust when required. Using the company’s PowerView platform, asset owners can remotely oversee and manage corrosion protection systems through a secure web-enabled interface, significantly reducing the need for routine site visits. By replacing many manual inspection activities with automated monitoring and IoT connectivity, the system helps reduce asset lifecycle costs while improving visibility of corrosion protection performance.

PowerView Smart Transformer/Rectifiers also use switch-mode technology to achieve high levels of energy efficiency while reducing standing power loads. Combined with a distributed architecture that minimises field cabling requirements and a modular design intended for long operational life, the system helps lower both installation and operational costs through the asset lifecycle.

Among the projects were upgrades to existing systems at North Colonnade and Canada Square in Canary Wharf. Designed for straightforward integration into existing infrastructure, the systems provide monitoring across multiple protection zones and reference electrodes, supporting ongoing corrosion management at two of London’s most prominent office developments.

Omniflex also supplied ICCP systems for Euston House and Selfridges London, the latter featuring a 16-zone system capable of monitoring up to 72 reference electrodes. Both projects demonstrate the adaptability of ICCP technology to different building types and operational requirements.

The technology has also been applied to heritage assets, including the Grade II-listed 140 Leadenhall Street. Originally constructed in 1931 as The Midland Bank, the building required a corrosion protection solution capable of supporting its preservation while respecting the structure’s historic character.

“One of the advantages of modern ICCP systems is that they allow operators to move away from a largely manual approach to corrosion management,” says Stuart McIntosh, business manager at Omniflex. “By providing remote visibility of system performance, building owners can make more informed maintenance decisions while significantly reducing the need for routine site inspections. This not only improves operational efficiency, but also helps reduce the overall cost of protecting important assets throughout their lifespan.”

With expertise spanning commercial developments, retail destinations and heritage structures, Omniflex provides ICCP systems tailored to the requirements of individual projects.
