Bringing predictive maintenance to the next level in the pulp and paper industry

August 2026 Maintenance, Test & Measurement, Calibration

Industrial conveyor belts are the backbone of mining, manufacturing, logistics and many other process industries. Unexpected failures in rollers, belts, motors or bearings can bring entire production lines to a halt, resulting in significant operational losses, safety risks and expensive maintenance interventions.

To address this challenge, ennomotive, global open innovation platform for engineering, has launched an international competition to identify innovative monitoring and predictive maintenance solutions capable of continuously assessing conveyor belt health and anticipating failures before they occur.

The initiative addresses a real operational challenge faced by CMPC, one of the world’s leading pulp and paper companies. Conveyor belt failures can interrupt production, increase maintenance costs and reduce plant availability across large-scale industrial operations. Improving the early detection of anomalies has become a strategic priority for increasing reliability and operational efficiency.

The challenge seeks proposals combining industrial sensors, computer vision, artificial intelligence, machine learning, edge computing, digital twins or other advanced technologies capable of improving the reliability, availability and maintenance efficiency of conveyor systems. Solutions may range from commercially available technologies adapted to this application to entirely new approaches for condition monitoring and predictive analytics.

The competition is open worldwide to technology companies, scaleups, research centres and engineering firms with expertise in artificial intelligence, industrial automation, predictive maintenance, IoT or related fields.

This is an opportunity to become a technology supplier to one of the world’s leading pulp and paper companies, with manufacturing operations in Chile, Brazil, Argentina and other countries. The winning solution will begin with a validation project at one of CMPC’s industrial facilities, with the potential for future large-scale deployment.
