Johannesburg Branch
August 2005
SAIMC
Once again, the branch winter golf day has arrived and gone. It was a highly successful event with 40 four-balls participating; the first of which teed off shortly after sunrise leaving footprints in the frost that was lying heavily on the fairways. As usual, the branch excelled in organising an event enjoyed by both the scratch golfers and hackers. We congratulate the Golf Sub-Committee, Jan van Wyk, Paulo da Silva, Terry Slabbert and the great stalwart, Kessi Coetzee, a grand team. Unsurprisingly, no golfer left empty handed, thirsty, nor hungry after the evening prize-giving event.
Sometimes the main contributors to a successful golf day are not even mentioned in this type of review. The organisers did well - but that was to be expected. Those staffing the water holes did exceptionally well - but we knew they would. The golfers made the day exceptional, we congratulate them on their enthusiasm and skill (as far as we know, no water hole staff were injured by stray balls).
Now the thanks are over, a reminder. Please remember that our monthly meetings are held at the Rivonia Club every second Wednesday of the month at 18h00 for 18h30. This is an opportunity to meet with your peers to discuss topics of common interest. These meetings are well supported, and their casual procedure encourages interesting discussions.
Remember the NEW website www.saimc.org.za. This is a site developed for the members to use and your support is invaluable. Use it and develop it with your ideas.
Membership is growing and we are excited that the SAIMC is still a driving force within our industry. Council are currently having discussions with the South African Qualifications Authority with the view that the SAIMC contribute to the evaluation of qualifications of practitioners within this industry. We will keep you informed about this initiative.

“Never have so many owed so much to so few.” This phrase is a famous quote by Winston Churchill, referring to the efforts of the Royal Air Force pilots who fought in the Battle of Britain during World War II. It highlights the immense gratitude owed to the relatively small number of pilots who played a crucial role in defending the United Kingdom from the German Luftwaffe.
