Johannesburg Branch

December 2003 SAIMC

We have lived through another successful year for the Johannesburg Branch. Our regular monthly meetings were well supported and the sponsors have provided much useful information. The Branch committee is now analysing our successes so that we can build on this foundation for an outstanding 2004.

Some of the year's highlights include:

* Being voted Branch of the Year for 2002.

* Having an excellent average meeting attendance at all our monthly meetings.

* The August attendance was 36 when Craig Oswald from Automated Reasoning gave us a most interesting presentation on advanced control diagnostics in the process industry.

* Having two well-supported golf days.

* Being able to support educational institutions and providing cash prizes and medals for outstanding students studying instrumentation technology.

* Arranging visits for members to interesting and technically advanced sites.

Notwithstanding the above functions, we have provided a venue for like-minded members to meet together socially and enjoy opportunities to network with others in our industry.

Because of our central position, we have many SAIMC council members living within our area. We are extremely fortunate to have two council members on our committee - and this close contact with the council. We thank council for their attendance at our meetings and their valued support.

Our last golf day was held on 6 November and was again a great success with 30 Four balls. The weather was superb, it was hot and dry with a gentle breeze. The eight sponsored waterholes were greatly appreciated and well utilised. Thank you to all the participants, sponsors, and committee members who spent many hours to make this day such a success.

Our January meeting, as every first meeting of the year, will be our AGM where we will elect the new committee for 2004. This meeting will be held at the same place, Rivonia Country Club on 14 January at 18h00 for 18h30. This will be your opportunity to voice an opinion and get involved in the decision-making process of the SAIMC.

There is no charge for attendance, and both members and visitors are welcome. Please attend!

Remember! We always meet on the second Wednesday of the month.

Again I would like to take this opportunity to thank our monthly meeting sponsors, all of you who attend our meetings and my committee for their enthusiasm and commitment shown throughout 2003.

Chairman, Johan van Jaarsveldt, [email protected]
