AS-I gateway interface with graphical display and 'built-in AS-I scope'

March 2003 Fieldbus & Industrial Networking

Innomatic is offering the Bihl + Wiedemann AS-I gateway with graphical display.

The device is a high-end solution to link AS-Interfaces with a superior fieldbus system. The AS-I Gateway features one or two AS-I Masters (in accordance with the new 2.1 specification) as well as an interface to the Profibus and DeviceNet system.

Programming or changing AS-I slave addresses is made easy through the user interface graphical display. Slaves can now be easily addressed directly on the gateway. For shortened commissioning time or faultfinding, digital and analog I/Os can be directly activated or read from the AS-I gateway without the controller/PLC being connected.

The AS-Interface gateway has a built in AS-I scope function that monitors the integrity and quality of the AS-I communications. The onboard scope continuously checks for transmission errors, the graphical display allows for realtime information to be read at a glance. Each slave has an error counter that can be reset and can give an early indication of any network or slave problems. The analog I/Os are controlled by the gateway without the requirement of any special configuration.

Advantages offered by this user-friendly system include significant savings in time and costs.

Loop signature Part 2-2: Feedforward Control: Part 1
Michael Brown Control Engineering Fieldbus & Industrial Networking
Feedforward control is a powerful technique that can dramatically improve control variance in cases where load changes cause big deviations from setpoint and the actual process dynamics are too slow to allow the feedback controller to operate fast enough to catch these disturbances.
