Profibus fibre-optic transceiver
March 2003
System Integration & Control Systems Design
The ERbic Profibus fibre-optic transceiver converts the electrical signals of the Profibus interface into optical signals. Data transmission is effected bi-directionally, with data transparency in half-duplex mode. The optical parameters follow the Optical Transmission Technology Directive for Profibus.
Profibus systems with transmission speeds up to 1,5 Mb/s are supported. Of significance is the D-Sub pin connector for fast connection to the 9-pin Profibus interface as well as the angled design, which provides load-free routing of the optical fibres. The ERbic system allows the copper and optical fibre transmission technologies to be combined, using the D-Sub female connector of the fibre-optic transceiver to connect the copper transmission path by means of an ERbic Profibus connector.
The ERbic Profibus fibre-optic transceiver is available in 850 nm versions for multimode glass fibres (50/125 µ or 62,5/125 µ) and as a 660 nm version for polymer fibres (1 000 µ-PMMA) or HCS fibres (200/230 µ). The multimode version is offered in ST connection technology, the polymer/HCS version in FSMA connection technology. Customised fibre-optic cables are available on request.
