The Improved PeakMaster/PeakMate Condition Monitor is a light portable handheld ultrasonic-based predictive/preventative maintenance system. The system checks bearings, gears, valves, hydraulic and pneumatic systems. It is capable of detecting electrical arcing as well as air, steam, gas and vacuum leaks. The built-in data logger can store up to 16 readings from each of up to 5000 measurement points. This is useful for on the spot instant trending, and the data may be viewed numerically or graphically on a large LCD screen. Extended readings for up to 200 seconds are possible.
The accompanying PeakMate software keeps a permanent record of all readings for graphic or numerical display. This allows easy access to histories of each measurement point and job card data - and the zooming and smoothing features aid analysis. Two alarm levels can be set, to alert the user when equipment needs checking for replacement of worn parts.
Boasting EuroNorm compliance, its makers say that the audio and/or contact method used by this system is superior to the approach using ordinary vibration sensors, as it is considerably more sensitive. It has regularly detected bearing faults as they develop, and other problems that will pass undetected - even when probed with sophisticated (and more expensive) vibration testers.

Maintenance, Test & Measurement, Calibration
The purchase price of an industrial lubricant is only a fraction of what lubrication truly costs a business. Lubrication Engineers South Africa explains how shifting from unit price to total cost of ownership changes the equation significantly.
