International Sensor Technology (IST) has developed a sensor which is sensitive to over 100 toxic/combustible gases, and built it into a portable and easy-to-use instrument. The set-up and calibration data, together with the response curve for each gas is stored in memory. When a gas is selected from the menu, the unit automatically uses this data to configure itself, and provides an accurate reading of the gas concentration. There is also a 'gas search' facility which scans for all the 100+ gases. A zero reading indicates that there are no hazardous gases present.
This instrument from PREI Instrumentation has four input ports, so that in addition to the above multigas sensor, it accepts electrochemical, catalytic bead and solid-state sensors. This feature provides greater selectivity for key gases. The readings from four different sensors can be displayed simultaneously, and alarm facilities are available. Optional data logging allows storage of months of data which can be downloaded to a printer or PC. The instrument comes with built-in sample pump and sample wand in a weatherproof carrying case. It can operate for 20 hours off six 'D' alkaline batteries and weighs only 2,7 kg including batteries.
