Umgeni Water installs clamp-on, nonintrusive flowmeters

Umgeni Water recently purchased four new-generation Prosonic flowmeters from Endress+Hauser for various flow applications. Having used Endress+Hauser equipment before to measure the flow, level and pressure at its plant, Umgeni Water felt confident that Endress+Hauser could once again supply the equipment it needed to overcome some very real issues.
One of the units purchased was used at Midmar Dam wall for test purposes on an unusually big line measuring 1800 mm in diameter. The pipes were in a position difficult to access and space was thus limited. The flowmeters supplied by Endress+Hauser are clamp-on, nonintrusive units which eliminate the need to cut the pipe, weld or shut down the system with the consequent cost implications and could be installed in the confined space. In addition, the Prosonic flowmeters overcame the problem of cathodic interference experienced with the insertion flowmeters previously used by Umgeni Water.
One unit is used at Midmar Dam to measure the flow in the reservoir inlet and to measure pipeline offtake. No costly pipeline modifications were required before the equipment could be installed. Umgeni Water is also benefiting from the training courses offered by the supplier of their equipment.
