Sasol Sastech control and instrumentation guru to share his views at BUSSTOP 2002

Eminently qualified, Suran Pillay will deliver his views on process networking and communications technology at the BUSSTOP 2002 conference this month.

Résumé

Pillay, manager, control engineering, Sasol Sastech, graduated with a Degree in Electronic Engineering in 1986. He completed postgraduate studies at the University of the Witwatersrand and has also recently completed the Mastering Technology Enterprise (MTE) programme at IMD in Switzerland. Pillay has spent 13 years working for AECI Engineering department where he was primarily responsible for executing control and instrumentation projects within the chemical and petrochemical environment.

He joined Sasol in 1998 and managed the Control and Electrical department for Sasol in Sasolburg. Pillay currently manages the Control Engineering department for Sasol Sastech and is primarily accountable for the control and instrumentation aspects of Sasol's projects. Pillay is also technically responsible for Sasol's process automation strategy initiatives.

BUSSTOP 2002 Conference

For the first time in South Africa, local Ethernet vendors, the Fieldbus Foundation and the Profibus User Group, will come together to discuss the technologies now available and pave the way to a more universal standard in industrial networking, at the Process Industry Networking and Communications Conference between 15 and 17 September 2002.

Delegates will arrive and register on Sunday, 15 September at Dikhololo Lodge just outside Brits in the North West Province. "The conference schedule is packed with interesting topics and updates such as Profibus, Foundation Fieldbus, Ethernet technology and industrial IT, presented in most instances from an end-user's point of view," says Hanli Nangle, Event Director at élancommunications, organisers of the event. "We plan to promote an interactive programme, whereby delegates will have ample opportunity to get involved in Q&A forums with speakers and other delegates."

Loop signature Part 2-2: Feedforward Control: Part 1
Michael Brown Control Engineering Fieldbus & Industrial Networking
Feedforward control is a powerful technique that can dramatically improve control variance in cases where load changes cause big deviations from setpoint and the actual process dynamics are too slow to allow the feedback controller to operate fast enough to catch these disturbances.
