A new analyser from Rotronic, the AwQuick, has been developed for the rapid determination of water activity values in laboratory and process applications. The AwQuick works in combination with the Rotronic Hygromer AwVC ventilated water activity measuring station to rapidly define water activity values. Mathematical modelling of the product’s equilibrium process means that measurement times can, for example, be reduced from 60 to 6 minutes, dependant on the type of product. Audible and visual alarms confirm to the user when the measurement is complete. For research purposes, the AwQuick can also be used to record the entire equilibration process of a product. Automatic equilibrium detection ends the recording and the data can be transferred to a PC for further analysis or storage.
Operation of the AwQuick is through a simple-to-use menu system that guides the user through the set-up and operational process. Results are displayed on a large LC display.
The AwQuick is a fully digital system, requiring no maintenance. To maintain system precision, Rotronic recommends periodic calibration of the AwVC measuring station. The AwQuick features SoftCal, a software assisted procedure for up to 5 calibration points. A range of humidity standards from 0 to 95%rh (0 to 0.95 aw) are available complete with certificates (SCS) which verify generated value and uncertainty.
Typical applications include food and pharmaceutical products where rapid results can have a significant production and quality control benefit.
