New fast Ethernet rail switch

Industrial Automation & Control supply a newly developed fast Ethernet rail switch, RS2. It is designed for realtime capable medium-large and large fast Ethernet networks in unprotected production environment. With speeds of 100 Mbps in half duplex and 200 Mbps in full-duplex mode, it is capable of deterministic data transmission. One of its most important qualities is rapid media redundancy. Upon failure of a component or line, the error-tolerant ring structure switches within 300 ms to the redundant stand-by alternate connection. The network is thus protected from failure and data transmission is free of data loss.

The manageable fast Ethernet rail switch comes in three variants that differ in the design of the full-duplex-capable uplink port. In addition to five 10/100 Mbps auto-sensing twisted-pair terminal device ports with shielded RJ45 connections, the RS2-FX/FX has two multi-mode connections, the RS2-TX/TX has two twisted-pair connections and the RS2-FX-SM/FX-SM has two single-mode optical fibre connections. Optical fibre connections allow the user to construct networks covering large areas. The switches support SNMP and web-based management. They are also equipped with control intelligence that allows for the redundant coupling of several rail switch rings to a hierarchically superior ring. If the user wants double the security, there is a possibility of integrating a second ring into the RS2. (A network stretching 2000 km.)

If the user uses the single-mode connections of the RS2 and the topology of a ring structure, the maximum extension of the network is 2000 km. If a bus structure is used, the network can stretch over several thousand kilometres. With its sturdy cap rail housing and the redundant DC current inputs, the rail switch is especially well suited for the rugged demands of an industrial setting.

Big performance at a little price: RS2-TX An additional innovation is the attractively priced fast Ethernet rail switch RS2-TX. The nonmanageable eight-port 10/100 Mbps auto-sensing switch exemplifies its compact design and its outstanding price-to-performance ratio. And the user does not need to go without the advantages of the industrial line rail products such as fast and simple cap rail assembly, redundant 12 to 32 V d.c. inputs and the extended temperature range of 0 to +60°C.
