Personal monitor for four gases
March 2002
Analytical Instrumentation & Environmental Monitoring
After 60 years of breakthroughs in gas detection and sensor technology, Riken has introduced what it believes is the smallest and most affordable 4-gas monitor in the world. The type GX-2001 weighs only 140 g, and is about the same size as a small pager, measuring 72 x 56 x 27 mm. Small cross-bars are provided top and bottom for a strap so that the instrument can be worn as a wrist watch.
Available from Protea Automation Solutions, the GX-2001 simultaneously monitors combustibles, oxygen, carbon monoxide, and hydrogen sulphide. It is armed with standard features such as auto-calibration, datalogging, rechargeable Ni-Cad batteries, a unique vibration alarm, STEL/TWA readings, peak hold and auto-backlighting on alarm, all on a large LCD - it also tells the time!
All the controls and features are accessed through three simple pushbuttons, which glow in the dark. The instrument incorporates what is said to be the world's smallest gas sensors utilising catalytic combustion, electrochemical and galvanic sensor technologies. Although small, each miniaturised sensor is manufactured with the same precision and quality control that has established the Riken range throughout the world.
