Bilge water alarm monitors hydrocarbon in realtime

Honeywell has introduced the Seres Bilge Water Alarm Monitor S.646 for detecting oil traces in condensates in a range from 0-12 mg/l and hydrocarbons in the range 0-400 mg/l.
The monitor's infrared transmitter (laser diode) emits a monochromatic beam that crosses the measuring vessel containing water for analysis. A compensation cell, located in front of the beam, compensates for the loss of light due to hydrocarbons, suspended matter or water colour.
A measuring cell angled in relation to the light beam measures the reflection of the photons arising from the presence of oil in the beam. The quantity of photons is proportional to the quantity of oil in the sample. The monitor is easy to install and features a digital ppm display and a set point alarm at 15 ppm that is both audible and visual.
