Instrumentation specialist introduces new process assembly

December 2001 Analytical Instrumentation & Environmental Monitoring

Following its acquisition of Exner in January 2000, Endress+Hauser Conducta has completed the development of a new process and assembly called Unifit H CPA 442.

The holder is seen as the bridge between flow-through assemblies and retractable holders and was designed for the food and beverage, pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries. "It allows the user to install 120 mm pH electrodes, IsFET sensors and COS21 oxygen sensors in various processes," Product Manager Jacques Fouché explains. "It mounts to a customer specific process connection, of which nine different standard options are available, ranging from DN 50 diary couplings (DIN11851) to tri-clamp, APV and Varivent connections. Any other connection can be custom made as a special technical product."

To date, the use of high-end retractable assemblies in the food, pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries has limited the number of measuring points available. The device can now be used to install pH and oxygen sensors directly in the process, like a retractable holder. Furthermore, since many processes run on a batch mode, the holders and electrodes can be manually removed and calibrated.

With two different surface roughness specifications available, the stainless steel assembly can also be supplied with leakage monitoring, which will inform the operator when O-ring failure has taken place. It is available with either an EPDM, Viton or silicone moulded seal, all with FDA approval. The Unifit H CPA 442 is claimed to have the broadest available temperature (-10 to 140°C) and pressure range in the market - up to 1 MPa (10 Bar).

"Unifit H CPA 442 provides the user with the best price/performance ratio in the food and pharmaceutical markets," says Fouché. "It is also compatible with any 120 mm pH glass electrode, Endress+Hauser IsFET sensor or COS21 dissolved oxygen sensor."
