Fugitive emissions monitor

December 2001 Analytical Instrumentation & Environmental Monitoring

Environmental concerns continue to impact upon chemical manufacturers and end-users. The control of fugitive emissions from industrial process equipment is a primary concern. The provision for early-warning detection of packing deterioration, in both rotary and linear valves, is economically achievable through the internal integration of the Westlock EM300 fugitive emissions monitor plus capable of both local and remote display.

A high integrity 300 Class pressure sensor (with optional local LED indication) in combination with double packing or bellows-seal control valves, will immediately detect very low pressure build-up due to leaks. The EM300 design combines an Inconel 600 diaphragm with a highly engineered enclosure for sensitive low-level measuring. Proof and burst pressures are considerably above the low sensing range.

High integrity design

Manufactured for a myriad of chemically compatible applications, the sensor enclosure is doubly hermetically sealed and constructed of 316 stainless steel. Both the pressure measurement and the sensor assembly areas are independently hermetically sealed from one another and also from the environment. Adding to its proprietary features, the EM300 fugitive emissions monitor's wide temperature range is enhanced by specially designed internal pressure compensation. False alarms, due to temperature variations, are negated by altering pressure trip points to follow the universal gas law.

Integrated monitoring

Designed for compatibility with the existing line of Westlock products, the EM300, with optional local LED indication, may be internally integrated for utilisation with Accutrak/Eliminator/Quantum configurations on rotary valves and MOD3/EPIC configurations on linear control valves. Additionally, the unit is available for the monitoring of manual valves. This version is designed as a single unit having its own UL/CSA listed Class I, Groups B, C and D, Class II, Groups E, F and G, Divisions 1 and 2 junction housing.
