Oxygen monitoring is critical for minimising corrosion in power plant water chemistry applications. Mettler Toledo Thornton’s pure water optical dissolved oxygen (ODO) sensor, paired with the Thornton M800 transmitter provides high accuracy, fast response and increased stability in demanding low ppb-level ultrapure water applications.

The ODO sensor provides outstanding measurement performance with low detection limit, minimum drift, and short response time, and therefore significantly improves oxygen monitoring. Mettler Toledo’s proprietary OptoCap sensing element provides very accurate oxygen determination and easy maintenance without electrolyte handling. Additionally, the OptoCap eliminates the need for polarisation, making the measuring system readily available and reducing downtime.

Typical applications include dissolved oxygen measurement in power plant cycle chemistry monitoring, generator stator cooling, semiconductor ultrapure water, and other pure water treatment systems where dissolved oxygen content is critical. However, power plant generator stator cooling water typically contains dissolved hydrogen from the pressurised hydrogen atmosphere inside the generator. Hydrogen interferes with polarographic DO sensors, but not the ODO sensor.

Intelligent Sensor Management (ISM) technology simplifies handling of the ODO sensor with plug-and-measure simplicity. In addition, the Dynamic Lifetime Indicator (DLI) and Adaptive Calibration Timer (ACT) make maintenance planning easy, reducing downtime.

The pure water ODO sensor is six times faster than traditional polarographic sensors, making it one of the fastest DO sensors available.
