June 2016Maintenance, Test & Measurement, Calibration
RS Components (RS) has introduced its first professional wireless HVAC (heating, ventilation and air conditioning) test and measurement instruments optimised for use with smartphones and tablets.
The Testo range of compact Smart Probes allows HVAC engineers and site maintenance staff to calculate, document, store and email equipment data via the new free downloadable Smart Probe App for Android or iOS. The new probes connect quickly and easily to a smartphone or tablet via Bluetooth, so they can be used unencumbered by hoses or wires.
Eight Smart Probe models are available separately or in kits aimed at three main application areas:
• AC/R kit for use in commissioning, servicing, maintaining and troubleshooting air conditioning and refrigeration systems.
• VAC kit for measuring, balancing, troubleshooting and optimising ventilation systems.
• Heating kit for use with radiators and hydronic heating systems.
For refrigeration and AC/R technicians, the AC/R kit comprises two pressure probes that can measure high-side and low-side refrigerant pressure simultaneously, and two clamp thermometers to monitor the temperature of heating and cooling pipes more accurately than using a thermocouple.
The VAC kit includes everything needed to test and balance a multi-outlet ventilation system including: hot wire and vane anemo-meters to measure air velocity, volume flow and temperature in ducts and at registers; an infrared thermometer to help assess the condition of motors and electrical equipment; and a thermohygrometer for assessing humidity and dewpoint issues.
The heating kit includes a differential pressure manometer to measure static pressure, airflow and volume flow – including manifold pressure and pressure drop across filters and coils – along with clamp and infrared thermometers.
The kits are supplied in smart carry cases for ease of use on the job. Complementary products available from RS include digital manifolds and a refrigerant leak detector.
