Compact loadcell transmitter

November 2001 Maintenance, Test & Measurement, Calibration

One of the smallest loadcell transmitters available on the market today, Digital Process Measurement's Model 9004 measures a neat 92 x 92 x 26 mm wide. This DIN-rail-mount, fully programmable unit is designed and manufactured in South Africa and exported to eight overseas countries.

Set-up is done via a notebook or desktop PC using DPM's Windows-based Smartnew software available from the company's website. Pre-calibration ranges can be allocated to zero and full-scale values, which can be adjusted on site via a laptop to allow for deadweight offset and deadweight span calibration.

Switchmode power supply of 95-265 V AC/DC can power up to six loadcells. Inputs are full 6-wire configuration with standard 10 V excitation, sense feedback to compensate for cable loss and mV. Output is isolated 0-10 V or 4-20 mA. The stable bridge excitation voltage is user selectable for normal or intrinsic safe applications. Loadcell sensitivity is programmable from 1,00 to 3,00 mV/V.

The precision instrumentation op-amp front-end circuit ensures high accuracy and stability. The digital filter feature allows for a stable output in noisy systems. RS232 serial interface is standard to allow connection to remote computers or RS485 (available as an option) for scada using DPM's Digibus protocol. The RS485 can handle up to 99 transmitters linked on the same bus. Other options are one or two photomos relays with programmable setpoints.

Said to be the largest manufacturer of panel meters in South Africa for the last 12 years, DPM is respected for producing internationally comparable quality products meeting all required EMC and EEC stipulations. A three-year guarantee is standard on all units.
