Parr customisable high pressure and temperature reactors
January 2015Analytical Instrumentation & Environmental Monitoring
Parr Instrument Company offers a wide choice of stirred and non-stirred pressure vessels designed to meet individual installation or operating requirements for laboratory procedures that must be performed under pressure at elevated temperatures.
Now, in response to several customer requests, Parr is pleased to introduce modified versions of these vessels with higher pressure and temperature ratings. Recent additions to this line have included new sizes, new temperature and pressure combinations and new self-sealing enclosures, all designed to provide convenient vessels for the application at hand.
These reactors are used in many branches of chemical technology. Catalytic hydrogenation with its associated catalyst development and testing is certainly one of the principal applications of these reactors with their excellent three-phase mixing designs. Polymer development is another major area of application. Additionally, the vessels have been used extensively in hydrometallurgical applications.
For users with multiple feed, vent and instrumentation needs, Parr offer a fixed head design. The movable vessel is offered to users who wish to charge or recover reactants and products away from the operating area. The o-ring sealed vessels are for users looking for convenience at moderate operating temperatures and PTFE. The graphoil gaskets are for users requiring higher operating temperatures.
There are many other options and accessories to turn a stirred reactor into a pressure reaction system, making it ideal for the user to decide on the choice best suited for a particular application.

At its peak in 1994, the energy generation capacity of the UK’s nuclear power stations was 12,7 GW across 16 plants. In 2024, the capacity has fallen to around 5 GW, and the number of stations is down to nine. However, this is far from the end of the story as spent nuclear fuel remains radioactive for centuries, and requires rigorous safety processes to safeguard against leaks.
