NewElec’s two OLR 8 models are separate single-pole overcurrent and under load relays that assist in rapidly tripping a motor when its load has exceeded a user-selectable pre-set threshold or to protect a pump from running dry. Mechanical damage to couplings, chain conveyors, gearboxes and V-belts can be substantially diminished when such occurrences are a result of over torqueing. In a similar manner, pump equipment can be saved by tripping the drive motor when loading is diminished beyond a user-selected level.
Both relays are easy to use and fitted with latched diagnostic LEDs as well as early warning alarm relays. Both relays accommodate CTs with 1 A inputs.
Costly downtime is prevented and broken conveyor belts, snapped chains, coupling failures or even broken gearboxes are avoided. In some instances and with careful adjustments, the relay has been used to prevent crane overloading. It can be used in conjunction with any current range as an alarm/trip or current regulating unit. An easy to use load setting dial is calibrated from 30 to 120% of the primary current transformer and is used to monitor the load.
The over-torque relay has a trip delay setting dial calibrated from 1 to 10 s to overcome start inrush current trips. With a small surface mounted footprint of 52 x 102 mm, the OLR 8 incorporates an 11-pin plug-in base and is fitted with three LEDs which signal power on, overload and trip conditions. An additional feature allows for either automatic or manual only resetting options. The relay has a user-selectable 110 or 220 V AC auxiliary voltage supply.
