Lightning and surge protection, earthing components and safety equipment manufacturer, Dehn Protection South Africa has launched a new high-voltage-resistant conductor for all classes of lightning protection systems (LPS), known as HVIpower.
The complete HVIpower system, including accessories, is tested with lightning impulse currents (10/350 s) of 200 kA. It also allows for an increased separation distance of 20% more than other high-voltage-resistant conductors (75 centimetres), translating to an equivalent separation distance of 90 centimetres in air and 180 centimetres in the case of solid material.
“HVIpower is extremely easy to use,” says Dehn Protection South Africa MD, Alexis Barwise. “The new spring contact in the supporting tube allows automatic contact to the semi-conductive coating of HVIpower, thus establishing the sealing end. The equi-potential bonding is directly connected to the metal supporting tube to ensure quick and easy installation without errors.”
HVIpower is installed in a stainless steel supporting tube to give the following advantages:
* Improved aesthetic appearance since the conductor is not visible.
* Small area exposed to the elements.
* Fast installation.
“Handling is straightforward as the plastic insulation can be stripped by means of the HVIstrip 27 tool without damaging the copper conductor. HVIpower is thus easily configured and installed due to its connection set,” concludes Barwise.
