BeST South Africa (BeST) a supplier of integrated and optimised control solutions, has recently secured a contract from Rockwell Automation, to upgrade the existing beer filtration line at SAB Newlands Cape Town.
BeST will be replacing the existing Siemens S5 PLC system with a Siemens S7 PLC system. In addition, as part of SAB Newlands' ongoing drive to improve and optimise its automation systems, Rockwell's RS Batch batching system will be added during the upgrade.
This contract builds on the successful partnership developed between BeST and Rockwell Automation's GMS (global manufacturing solutions) group. Further, it expands on BeST's ongoing work with SAB Newlands. Rockwell Automation will provide consulting and project management services.
BeST's scope of supply will encompass base level process control and design, scada development and batch control and design. Hardware and software supply of the Siemens equipment will be its responsibility. An integrated material tracking system, M Track, from Rockwell Automation is also included.
The mix of products being integrated, namely Rockwell's RS Batch and M Track, Siemens S7 PLCs and Wonderware's InTouch scada is claimed to be a first in South Africa. BeST has considerable experience with SAB's systems at Newlands, and is a certified integrator in all the above products.
