Wireless HART gateway connects up to 250 field devices

Phoenix Contact has introduced a Wireless HART gateway with an integral WLAN transceiver. The gateway, which can be snapped onto a mounting rail, connects up to 250 Wireless HART field devices. It converts HART data into ModbusTCP allowing simple integration into almost all host systems. Using Wireless HART new systems can be installed in just a fraction of the time required for hard-wired networks. Further, this gateway allows existing wired field devices to be integrated into the system via a Wireless HART adaptor.
The integrated WLAN can be used as a backhaul connection. This means that the gateway can be installed closer to the devices to be monitored in the field, allowing users to create a ‘cluster’ network topology with several smaller Wireless HART networks, which have a wireless connection to the host system. As an alternative, an Ethernet port is available for hard-wired solutions.
With Wireless HART, the same maintenance and diagnostic tools are used as for the conventional wired HART devices. This means that only a low amount of user training is required.
