Profile of Schneider Electric SA's multi-faceted buildings business unit

June 2012 News

Schneider Electric South Africa employs its solutions-based buildings business unit to focus on designing comprehensive power management solutions for both buildings and residential establishments. “The buildings business unit utilises and cross-sells all of the company’s products in order to create fully functional, energy saving buildings for clients under one Schneider Electric brand,” says Ashen Maharaj, building vice president at Schneider Electric SA.

The unit is made up of two teams: the buildings management team and the Pelco by Schneider Electric South Africa team. The responsibility of the buildings management team is split into three sub divisions. “The first provides solutions to the end users and harnesses the skills of the various personnel in the team to put together fully integrated solutions for both buildings and households. A solutions based offering will often involve selling products from other departments, and these products together allow for a complete buildings management system to be assembled,” explains Maharaj.

“The second sub division sells Schneider Electric South Africa products through our channel, which comprises about 20 countrywide partners who operate individually and embark on projects with our support. The third facet is pure product sales to both end users and maintenance companies.”

The buildings management team includes business development manager, John Da Silva; key accounts manager healthcare, Annalien Steyn, product and sales manager, Kyle Hunking; key account manager, hotels and retail, Neil Von Hoesslin, projects commissioning engineer, Artur Socha; solutions architect for Energy Efficieny Rudi De Waard; with the solutions architects for BMS being Victor Santos and Joeseph Sothoane. The three project managers are Stephen de Beer, Timothy Baaitjies and Dirk Smit.

With a history of high-quality products, Pelco by Schneider Electric is one of the most sought-after suppliers in the video security industry. “Pelco is a world leader in the design, development and manufacture of video security systems, including high-definition and IP fixed, dome and integrated positioning camera systems; next-generation video management and software-only solutions; video matrix systems; full HD displays and more,” says Maharaj.

“Respected as a major product innovator in the market, Pelco manufactures a large number of special equipment items, including explosion-proof and pressurised camera enclosures, high-security housings and thermal imaging pan-tilt-zoom positioning systems. It also produces the industry acclaimed Spectra, Sarix, Esprit, Camclosure, Endura and Digital Sentry lines.”

The Pelco team includes security business development manager, Gilbert Muller and, accountable for technical support and related quality services, Barry Kasselman. Joy Holme fulfils the role of channel manager and is responsible for all direct accounts, while Malcolm Govender is involved in new business development, projects, design and specifications. Julian Moss completes the team and, as a solutions architect, he assists in the design and implementation of end-to-end Pelco and Schneider Electric South Africa solutions.
