OMSA tests effectiveness of low pressure filters
October 2011
Analytical Instrumentation & Environmental Monitoring
The OMSA Group recently embarked on factory tests to determine the effectiveness of its low pressure filters and a new portable particle counter on a sample of ISO100VG grade lubricant oil. The original quality of the tested oil was at ISO 21/19 (6 μm/14 μm), which is above general industry standard for lubricant oils, making the results significant. The test illustrates that due to correct design and application the oil was 16 times cleaner after filtration, according to the ISO 4406 code. The obvious cost advantage associated with the cleaner lubrication is higher uninterrupted production times.
The in-line laser particle counter mounted after the 10-micron filter delivered the results shown in the table over a period of 30 minutes.
The particle counter is supplied in a portable carry case complete with a 12 VDC battery and charger. Tested in the Omsa production facility prior to delivery, the unit offers the following:
*On board early warning for component wear, filter failure, seal failure, water ingress, cavitation, oxidation and viscosity changes.
* Infrared and fibre-optic connections for data download and analysis.
* Water glycol compatible.
* Eliminates the need for bottle sampling and off-line analysis.
